Cryo-Trim® with CO2 - Trimming & Separating In 1 Process

The XL Cryo-Trim Base model kit includes everything you need to start trimming immediately:

1. 1/4″ mesh trim screen
2. Thermometer
3. Stopwatch
4. CO2 hose with fittings
5. Food grade leaf collection tool and brush

Cryo-Trim Throughput: 672 dry lb/day or 2,016 wet lb/day

The Multi-functional, blade-less tumble trimmer from The Original Resinator OG is a prime choice for commercial growers seeking maximum efficiency and minimal waste in trimming. Assisted by flash freeze technology, it accomplishes 85% of trimming, with a high-quality nylon mesh screen gently cradling flowers during the tumble process. This separation effectively isolates sugar leaves from dried flowers, leaving minimal touch-up work (crows feet) required, while preserving trichomes and flowers. The trimmer can handle up to 40+ pounds per hour, with each 5-7 minute cycle manicuring 5-6 pound loads.

Effortless collection of trim material is facilitated through high-quality 1/4” & 1/2” mesh screens after it has fractured and fallen through. The trimmer's versatile design extends its applications to tasks such as de-seeding, removing large leaves, recapturing dry-ice, isolating small flowers, and more. Loading and unloading harvested flowers and processed material is made easy due to the trimmer's unique and user-friendly design.

Cryo-Trim® Technology

1. Microinjections of liquid CO2 induce brittleness in exterior leaves, facilitating quick fracture and removal from flowers. The brief flash freezing of biomass results in a remarkably swift process, yielding impeccably manicured buds in a short timeframe.

2. When utilizing CO2 for dry trimming , there's no requirement to modify standard drying and curing procedures. The natural dry process enables organic curing of water molecules within the flower, ensuring your flowers maintain their accustomed quality.

3. Also known as Freeze Drying or Wet Curing , lyophilization becomes essential during wet trimming with CO2. Lowering the temperature below 32°F and displacing oxygen ruptures the plant's cellular walls, necessitating preservation before oxidation and discoloration. Deep freezer storage and sublimation through freeze drying signify a revolutionary shift in the preservation, processing, packaging, and consumption of flowers.

4. The Original Resinator employs a patented Cryo-Trim® protocol , utilizing liquid carbon dioxide to deliver an exceptional manicure of outer leaves. This results in a nearly perfect product, showcasing the effectiveness of the unique and patented trimming process.

5. The entire process of The Original Resinator boasts smaller footprints and outperforms alternative machines with comparable workflow throughput, showcasing a combination of efficiency and compact design for optimal results.

Cryo-Sieve® with CO2 - Kief Collection

The XL Cryo-Sieve Base model kit includes everything you need to get started:

1. Durable food grade 200 Micron screen
2. 3 pack food grade agitation balls
3. Thermometer
4. Stopwatch
5. CO2 hose with fittings
6. Kief scraper and brush

Cryo-Sieve Throughput: 672 dry lb/day or 2,016 wet lb/day

Utilizing CO2 with The Original Resinator on dry/cured material has no adverse effects. CO2, being hydrophobic and oxygen-displacing, repels water and ensures a smooth process with naturally cured biomass. After extraction, the biomass quickly normalizes, absorbing humidity from the surroundings. Maintaining optimal operating temperatures and relative humidity levels is crucial for preserving the quality of the processed material.

For optimal results , we recommend starting with a 150 to 200 micron bag (depending on strains and needs) and progressively decreasing the screen size based on the desired gland concentration. Screen sizes range from 25μm to 400μm (and even 600μm). Trichome types and sizes vary due to plant genetics, with some exceeding 150μm and others falling below 50-25μm. Techniques like color remediation or charcoal filters, often used in ethanol extraction for short path distillation, can further influence these sizes.

Cryo-Sieve® Technology

For a clean and professional extraction , the aim is to recover glands measuring between 75μm and 100μm (up to 125μm), as this range typically yields the best quality. The chosen screen size for dry sift extraction should align with the size of the targeted glands, with variations influenced by user preferences. This careful selection ensures an efficient and high-quality extraction process.

The use of liquid CO2 is crucial for working with plant biomass in its Live' WET/UNCURED state, offering versatility for various applications. It's essential to "maintain the cold chain" when dealing with fresh-frozen or Live' applications. Freezing the plant below 32°F ruptures cellular walls, preventing oxidation and discoloration if the biomass is consistently kept frozen. For Live' material, a deep freezer is employed to suspend the biomass in a frozen state, ensuring the preservation of its integrity.

Not only does a deep freezer solve a problem where a bottleneck occurs when dealing with freeze dryer capacity, but it acts as a staging area as well. This allows for complete harvest of a crop while awaiting availability of technicians, freeze dryers or extraction equipment prior to processing. When properly stored under a deep freeze the flower will remain suspended “frozen in time” until we are ready to process, for up to a year if stored correctly. If going from a fresh frozen state to a hydrocarbon extraction, being that there is no adverse reaction with water, the biomass can be processed directly out of the deep freezer into a closed loop system for immediate extraction. When going from a fresh frozen state to a solventless application we must use a freeze dryer and the lyophilization process where we sublimate the water as opposed to traditional means of drying where evaporation is employed.

h3O Extraction (Ice-Water) - Bubble While You Tumble

The XL Ice Water Wash base model kit includes everything you need (except ice water) to get started:

1. Durable food grade 200 micron drum screen
2. Thermometer
3. Stopwatch
4. set of 20 gallon Bubble Bags™ in 73, 90, 190, and 220 microns with pressing screen

Ice Water Washing Throughput: 224 dry lb/day or 672 wet lb/day

The virtues of a clean, rich concentrate are abundant and challenging to articulate fully. Describing the purest naturally-made extractions poses a linguistic challenge due to the myriad terms employed to convey the same extraordinary essence. The benefits transcend verbal expression, creating an experience that defies easy description.

The diversity of terms—be it bubble, ice-resin, ice-water resin, full melt, or others—reflects the complexity of describing a unique essence. Regardless of the nomenclature, pure water-extracted resin encapsulates all the benefits of a concentrate without the presence of solvents or chemicals found in butane, isopropyl, and other solvent-made concentrates.

Ice Water Washing Technology

A Solvent-Free Resin Extraction Method Bubble Hash is a resin extraction technique that involves placing dried flowers and plant clippings in iced water, utilizing temperature, stirring, and wet sifting to isolate high-potency resin glands. This solvent-free method yields pure, high-quality resin without the use of butane, CO2, or alcohol solvents, eliminating concerns about explosions. The process, popularized with micron bags and bubble methodology, involves placing plant material in a "work bag" with ice, followed by stirring and settling to gather resin glands of varying sizes. This water-made ice-resin method ensures a clean and safe concentrate.

Progressive Screening for Purity, Following the initial process, the mixture of ice water and resin glands is gently squeezed through a screen in the working bag. This results in a slurry that travels through a series of stacked bags, each equipped with progressively smaller screens. After extracting all water and resin glands from the working bag, the discarded plant material is often reprocessed to maximize resin extraction. Subsequently, each remaining bag or screen size is worked through, either by squeezing or tumbling, allowing water-resin slurries to filter into bags from the Resinator Chamber. This stepwise screening ensures the purification of the resin at varying sizes.

FAQ Section

How does the OG differ from the XL Model?
Both models function identically, with the only distinction lying in their capacity.
What is the capacity of the Resinator?
The OG model accommodates up to 3 lbs. of biomass when utilizing CO2 extraction, whereas the XL model boasts a larger 14.5 lb. capacity. It's important to note that these capacities are based on processing sugar leaves rather than larger fans and water leaves. When employing dry ice, adjustments must be made to account for the additional space occupied by the ice, resulting in a decrease in biomass capacity. For h3O applications or as a trimmer, the recommended amount is half the maximum capacity for optimal performance.
How does CO2 work to trim?
Loading flower into the machine and introducing liquid CO2 into the chamber enables achieving extremely cold temperatures. This process makes the exterior leaves brittle, causing them to fracture and fall through the mesh screen without harming the flower's integrity. For optimal trimming with CO2, it's recommended to maintain an "ice-cream" temperature, typically ranging between 10°F and 30°F. With proper preparation, this method allows for trimming at an impressive rate of one pound per minute.
What do you mean by multi-use?
The Resinator machines uniquely integrate a trim feature, an extraction feature, and a water-bubble wash feature within a single unit. Users can switch out various parts or accessories to seamlessly transition between these different options. This versatility enables instant freezing, fracturing, and extraction of trichomes and resin glands from both cured and uncured flowers and plant material. Remarkably, these machines yield returns of 20-40% in as little as 2-10 minutes. Each Resinator purchase includes all the necessary components for performing these three functions, exemplifying the concept of wet, dry, flash freeze—all in one.
At what temperature is resin extraction from flowers or trim typically achieved?
Sub-zero temperatures, specifically below -65°F, are preferred for any extraction process. The addition of liquid CO2 into the center chamber allows for temperature reduction, enabling extraction at extremely low temperatures. For precise temperature and run time guidelines, refer to our extraction guide.
What is the live resin extraction?
The highest potency levels in bud are typically found in its live or uncured state. Sub-critical extraction methods enable the processing of live or uncured plant matter, making it applicable in various forms such as live resin, live rosin, live ice wax, and live trimming. The term "live resin" essentially refers to bud in its uncured or raw state.
How should I handle the leftover "trim" once I've completed the trimming process?
Upon completing the trim feature with the Resinator, transition by swapping the mesh trim screen for any of the extraction screens with specific micron ratings. Introduce your trim to the chamber and adhere to the extraction guide, adhering to recommended run times, speeds, and load sizes. It's essential for TOR (The Original Resinator) owners to switch to the extraction screen and commence extraction activities only if they possess the necessary permits or licenses for such activities.
Why does my machine/motor keep turning off?
TThe motor is equipped with a safety feature that halts its operation, necessitating a reset (unplugging, allowing it to reset, and plugging back in) to resume functionality. To prevent this occurrence, ensure the drum comes to a complete stop before transitioning between forward and reverse, or vice versa.
Which micron-sized drum screens are included with the purchase of the machine?
The kits come prepackaged with a 1/4” mesh trim screen, along with one screen each in 200μm, 100μm, and 75μm sizes. Additionally, every Resinator purchase includes a set of resin collection bags in 200μm, 100μm, and 75μm. For those interested, we offer 25μm, 50μm, and 150μm drum screens, as well as Resin Collection bags, available for purchase on our website.
Does the use of CO2 for trimming result in any loss of the potency profile?
When utilizing CO2 for trimming, we observe less than a 1% total potency loss, surpassing the performance of many manual trimmers. Certificates of Analysis are available on our website, continually updated with additional data for transparency and information.
Is it permissible to clean the screens with alcohol, and is there a risk of the material cracking during the cleaning process?
Certainly, both 99% and 70% alcohol are effective for washing screens without causing any cracking or damage. Some customers also report success using ethanol. It is advisable to follow up with a rinse using water and h3O2. However, like any screen or filter, with prolonged use, replacement may eventually be necessary over time.
What is the difference in CO2 usage between the OG and XL versions, and how much can be accomplished with the same CO2 tank for each?
While it may appear that less CO2 is required for the smaller OG model, the efficiency of CO2 use becomes more apparent when considering the capacities of the XL unit. With the OG, you use only half the amount of CO2, allowing for approximately three runs using a 50-pound tank. On the other hand, the XL enables running almost 30 pounds of material in two runs with the same tank. For a more detailed understanding, refer to the CO2 Frequently Asked Questions section.
What is the recommended duration for rotation when conducting CO2 extracts?
Depending on the application, we rotate for various durations. For instance, in our CO2 extraction video, we ran for 60 minutes, showcasing a quantity extraction, which is common in distillate applications for color extraction through SPD and fractional distillation techniques. Conversely, for applications like rosin or live resin, we may only spin for 5-10 minutes.
How do you keep the temperature in the chamber so low?
The addition of liquid CO2 not only lowers the temperature to as low as -65°F, qualifying it as a subcritical extraction, but it also displaces oxygen. Typically, this displacement requires around 20-25 lbs of CO2, roughly half of a standard 50lb tank with a siphon tube. After this process, it generally takes about an hour for the XL unit to normalize in temperature. The advantage of using less CO2 is that the Resinator temperature normalizes faster.
Do we need to open co2 tank or add a lot more co2 during the process?
No, additional CO2 is only necessary when not fully flash freezing to the subcritical temperature zone, which would ultimately require the same amount of CO2. To maintain the desired temperature range, all that is needed is a microburst, or a 5-second shot, of CO2 at small intervals.
What was your initial pressure in PSI in your co2 tank?
CO2, when unregulated, exits the tank at approximately 800 psi. While manual regulation is possible with a quarter turn, it is not necessary. Since we don't employ a closed-loop system, the pressure in the Resinator chamber doesn't reach levels of concern. It's important to note that temperature takes precedence over pressure, and as long as liquid CO2 is being added, it remains sufficient.
What maintenance does this machine necessitate?
The primary routine maintenance involves cleaning the equipment and occasionally replacing screens, akin to any filter or screen. If maintenance is required, all parts are easily removable and replaceable for convenient upkeep.
